This paper explores the development of the CPTSD Toolkit, examining how lived experience perspectives, psychological theory and practitioner feedback can be combined to create an accessible trauma-informed resource.
Current research
The CPTSD Toolkit is currently being evaluated through postgraduate research at the University of Greater Manchester. This qualitative study explores practitioners' perspectives on the toolkit's accessibility, acceptability and potential application within mental health services.
The study aims to identify the perceived strengths of the resource, opportunities for further development and considerations for future implementation across a range of settings. Findings will contribute to the ongoing refinement of the toolkit and the wider evidence base surrounding lived experience-informed resource development.
Current collaborations
The development of the CPTSD Toolkit has been strengthened through collaboration with professionals, organisations and people with lived experience.
Current collaborations include work with the CPTSD Foundation, exploring opportunities to deliver workshops, engage with their international community and support future evaluation of the toolkit.
The toolkit has also been supported through collaboration with the University of Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust Recovery Academy and feedback from practitioners, researchers and trauma-informed professionals who have contributed to its ongoing refinement.
As the project continues to grow, collaboration remains central to ensuring the toolkit develops in ways that are meaningful, evidence-informed and responsive to the needs of those using it.
Future development
The CPTSD Toolkit represents the beginning of a wider programme of work focused on improving access to trauma-informed psychoeducation and practical support.
Future developments include:
Expansion of the CPTSD Toolkit workshop programme.
Ongoing evaluation through research and participant feedback.
Further publications exploring trauma-informed and lived experience-informed approaches.
Development of a digital companion application designed to complement the toolkit through interactive resources, personalised learning pathways and enhanced accessibility.
Continued collaboration with organisations, practitioners and people with lived experience to guide future development.
The long-term vision is to create an evolving, evidence-informed resource that continues to bridge the gap between psychological knowledge, lived experience and accessible mental health support.
